Leslie Newman

I am a graphic designer and illustrator living in Indianola, Washington. By day (and some nights) I toil along, doing commercial work: designing brochures, books, advertisements, graphic identities and, most recently, developing art with licensing in mind. My design training was pre-Mac, if you can believe that, so I know what rubylith is and am still pretty handy with an Xacto knife. The Mac came soon after I finished artschool and happily, I was an "early adopter". I'm still amazed how far technology has brought the business, the change has been fast and furious. It puts the power in the hands of the designer: typography, imagery and layout.

With Matissimo I'm developing personal images that express my graphic style and, I hope, have a wide appeal. I was excited by the opportunity provided by CafePress to experiment, apply my designs to various products and make them available via the Web. Since CafePress provides the secure shopping web tools, just-in-time production and fulfillment, and great customer service, I can concentrate on the art. Of course getting people to my online boutique is the big challenge. I want it to be a fun place to visit, not just to shop but a peek into my life and sources of inspiration. Like life it's a work in progress.
